Archway, Kearney Rotary to Dedicate Flag ON 9/11 to Honor First Responders, Military.

The Archway and Kearney Rotary clubs will hold a special flag dedication ceremony for a large flag that will fly atop an 80 foot flagpole north of the monument’s main entrance. The 20×30 foot American flag will be dedicated to honor American firefighters, police officers, EMTs and all former and current military members. The ceremony is set to take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 in front of the Archway main entrance. The event is free and open to the public. “First and foremost, we felt this was a great opportunity to honor the folks who selflessly serve our community and our country,” said Rick Smith, Kearney Rotary club member and project chairperson. “The community of Kearney supported the project and helped us exceed our goal with both cash donations and in-kind donations. We are very fortunate to live in such a great community.” The initial goal was to raise $20,000 for the project, but the group ended up raising $65,000 in cash and in-kind donations. According to Archway spokesperson Jace Robinson, the additional cash will be used to landscape the area and set up an endowment for maintenance and replacement flags.KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings
