Operation Christmas Child

In the town of Kearney, not so far away,
The Dawn Rotary Club had a plan one day.
To join in a mission, full of cheer and light,
“Operation Christmas Child,” oh what a sight!

They gathered up items, toys, and a soccer ball,
With school supplies, toothbrushes, packed for all.
Their members joined in, with hearts open wide,
To fill up those shoeboxes, side by side.

Rotary members, cheerful and bright,
Began collecting goodies, by day and night.
Volunteers gathered, from young to old,
Filling each box, so the story is told.

In each little shoebox, gifts were tucked tight,
With love and with care, making spirits bright.
A card with a note, added with flair,
Sent with a wish, and a little prayer.

Off went the shoeboxes, from Kearney with love,
To children in need, under skies above.
Across the world, in lands far and near,
Bringing joy and some hope, and holiday cheer.

The Rotary’s mission, so noble and kind,
Left a trail of joy and goodwill behind.
In the hearts of the children, the gifts found a place,
And Kearney Dawn Rotary, spread smiles on each face.

So remember this tale, of the boxes and cheer,
How a small town in Kearney, spread love far and near.
With shoeboxes packed, and hearts full of light,
They brought Christmas joy, and made the world bright!

About Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization. It was founded in 1970 by Bob Pierce and later, after Pierce’s death in 1978, it was led by Franklin Graham, the son of the well-known evangelist Billy Graham. The organization is named after the New Testament parable of the Good Samaritan, which is told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. This parable, about a Samaritan who helps a person in need whom others had passed by, reflects the mission and philosophy of the organization.

About Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization. Launched in 1993, this project focuses on bringing joy and hope to children in need around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes. These shoeboxes are not just simple gifts, but symbols of love and the spirit of Christmas for millions of children who might otherwise go without during the holiday season.
